I see this weird phenomenon in the content space. People are terrified of telling the unvarnished truth. Even then it’s totally fine.
And we all prefer hearing it.
Here’s an example. Let’s talk employer brand. Take your average company’s careers site. Or hiring video, recruiting blog, job ad, whatever. Benefit after benefit, selling points, pics of happy people, generic company values, all written in bland corporate-speak.
But why? Who the hell gets excited by that?
No one believes it’s all positives. Because we all know it’s not true. And no one believes you sound that boring. (I take that back. Some companies are that boring…)
Here’s a thought. Mention why people leave your company. Talk about who won’t want to join. Give some real stories that include a few failures. Both sides of it. And talk like an actual human.
Once you do it, it’s really not that scary.
Nate and I are going to talk in depth about this topic on the next Employer Content Show, TODAY at 2:00 CT. It’ll be live via Zoom and we’ll dedicate some time to Q&A on any topic.
