Raise your hand if you heard this one:
“We’re having a hard time hiring. But leadership still won’t allow full remote.”
You can swap out ‘full remote’ with:
Pay more
Flex on the job requirements
Hire junior & train
Outsource
Hire non-traditional backgrounds
Ok, put your hand down now.
Why is this so common?
👉These types of shifts typically don’t happen until things get REAL bad. And by bad I mean the actual business outcomes take a hit. Revenue targets miss.
Until then, it’s a YOU problem. (By you, I mean hiring managers, HR, and recruiters.) Even though you see it coming a mile away, the suits aren’t on board.
The people on top are disconnected from the reality of this hiring market. The people on the front lines don’t have the clout to affect change.
👉The tight labor market makes things hard. But lack of internal alignment makes hiring impossible.
But I’m sure some of you don’t have this problem. And it comes down to a few things:
Execs who really do value hiring as part of their core duty
Hiring front-liners who collect data and phrase challenges in compelling business terms
Hiring success tied to goals and incentives (bonus, equity, etc.) throughout the organization
👉Those are the real challenges. Everything else is an endless hair-on-fire drill.
