“We’re just better.”
“Working here is a privilege.”
“If they don’t want to work here, we don’t want them anyway.”
I’m putting my greatest hits list - employer brand, candidate experience, recruitment process, etc - on the backburner for a minute.
Because none of it can overcome hiring arrogance.
This mindset still exists in many companies. They believe so strongly in who they are that ‘selling’ themselves to job seekers is below them.
What always struck me as odd: this doesn’t exist on the product sales side. Even the most knuckle-dragging, salesbro cultures know that sales is hard-fought. It’s a point of pride actually.
“Sales is so hard. But we’re great at it.”
Ok maybe it does make sense…
Still, this mindset is counterproductive to any kind of growth. You have to sell job seekers just as hard as you sell your product.
