This just in: 512,400 jobs added in July.
šThe real takeaway is the 3:1 ratio of Non-Office Dork jobs to Office Dork jobs.š
Office Dorks is what Iāve always called, well, us. The LinkedIn target audience. I probably need to update that to āHome Office Dorksā but it just doesnāt roll off the tongue.
Letās look at the breakdown, shall we?
Non-Office Dorks
Mining/logging 7000
Construction 32000
Manufacturing 30000
Wholesale 10500
Retail 21600
Transportation/warehousing 20900
Utilities 400
Education & health 122000
Leisure & hospitality 96000
šTotal 340400
Office Dorks
Information 13000
Financial 13000
Professional/businesses 89000
šTotal 115000
(Government had another 57k but we all know they donāt do any real work. Relax Iām kidding. Probably.)
Meanwhile, LinkedIn feeds are still flooded with high-tech company layoff news. Daily.
My takeaway?
šWe are witnessing sector rotation in the labor market.
We need more people building real things.
We donāt need as many people making software to help to run the software that supports the software that sells your software.
This month, anyway.
Thereās lots of business and career opportunities out there. They just may not be what you expected.
