Saying this again for the people in the back: “culture fit” sucks. Values are the important thing.
I’ve been doing this a long time. Long before the importance of DEI was on everyone’s radar. In common usage, “culture fit” meant “wasn’t exactly like the rest of us.” Personality. Educational background. Work history. Or even worse, what they look like…
That’s how a lot of companies made hiring decisions. Some still do. We’ve come a long way. But this hurdle still hasn’t been cleared.
And when you focus on ‘culture’ you not only limit the diversity of viewpoints, but the talent pools. You make hiring harder, with a less than ideal result.
Values are what’s important. Honesty. Reliability. Or whatever you choose. Pick your own values, it’s your damn company.
Make that, and the ability to actually do the job (crazy concept), your ‘fit’ focus.
If we can retire “culture fit” to just mean “dude was an a--hole in the interview,” that I’m ok with. 😂😂😂
