Ever wonder why companies expect a million different things?
Recruiting Myth Busters™️, Volume 2
Ever read a job description and wonder why companies expect a million different things?
I’ve got the answer in today’s Recruiting Myth Busters™️.
I'll let you in on a recruiter secret: we assume every job description we read is absolute garbage. I’m being serious. We expect that potentially none of it is accurate or based in reality.
Because more often than not, that’s how it pans out.
Every single time we work on a new job, we:
Read the JD
Have an intake call with the hiring manager to dig in further
And when we do an the intake, we find out one of two things:
There are critical things NOT actually listed
There are things listed that are NOT important whatsoever
Every. Single. Time.
Even if it’s one item that was off, it completely changes the complexion of search. JDs are basically fake news.
The real question isn't "why do these companies ask for so many skill sets?"
It’s "why does everyone suck at articulating what they really want?"
The answer to that? Beats me. I think they’re boring as hell to write so everyone just copies.
I mean have you ever written one? Beyond tedious. The worst.
