Everyone hates busywork

Especially job seekers

Sales should reduce friction. Marketing should un-gate the content.

And Hiring should eliminate bullsh*t homework.

You can’t get everything you want from people without giving something in return. As much as we want all the data for decision-making, buyers (and job seekers) make decisions, too.

👉When you ask for too much up front, that decision is telling you to get lost.

No matter how competitive your industry is for sales, the competition in hiring is even great.

👉You’re competing against every damn company out there. Not just the ones in your field.

So when you ask for too much up front, without giving job seekers a reason to play ball, they deprioritize you.

I’ll leave you with 3 thoughts:

  1. Don’t ask candidates to do assessments, projects, or tests until someone has spoken with them.

And explained why they should want to join.

  2. Ask yourself: do you even need this info? Are you making more informed decisions? Or is it a nice-to-have?

    Nice-to-haves = busy work.

  3. If you ask people to do real work that can benefit your company in an interview process, then not hire or pay them…it’s straight up unethical.
