Recruiters: everyone’s still here. Want them to respond? Become a better writer.
You’ll get no argument from me that LinkedIn has fallen behind.
👉On the messaging side, their revenue model (paid InMails, ads in the inbox, etc.) kills the user experience.
👉On the social side, their unwillingness to regulate growth hackers (engagement pods) or make sensible algo decisions (e.g. polls flooding the feed) turned it into a clown show.
But we’re still here.
Before Hirewell made our software acquisition (a better way to source is coming in Q1), we looked at all the LinkedIn Recruiter clones. The ones that use public data, threw on a similar interface and added the “AI” buzzword.
First thing we discovered: people respond to InMails at a far higher rate than emails.
Our team mentioned it. I had a hard time believing it at first. I think the LinkedIn DM box is a pile. But it’s true.
That by itself doesn’t prove everyone’s still on LinkedIn. But I did something else recently: I unfollowed everyone.
Wait, what?
Yes. The only way to fix a broken social feed is to take it to zero and start over. (I’ll talk about this more soon, but it absolutely works. My feed is 10x better than before.)
What do you learn when you remove thousands of follows from your feed? It never runs out of follow content to serve you.
I thought there would be hundreds or thousands of non-users. Connections who bailed on that platform. People who never like or comment on anything.
Nope. Never did. Everyone is still here, banging the like button.
It really comes down to 3 things. Only 1 is in your control.
1. Inboxes are flooded.
This is my software engineering friend’s inbox. No one has the time to reply to all. (Post here.)
2. Not everyone is looking.
What is everyone’s expectation anyway? The whole world hates their job and is ready to bounce?
3. Become a great writer to cut through the noise.
It’s not sexy, but there’s nothing more impactful than well executed direct outreach.
Want to recruit more candidates and make more placements in 2022?
👉 Write every day. It's the most important skill in your toolkit.
No BS courses needed.
