If people keep bailing out on your interview process, that’s a warning sign.
We’re all human. We get stuck in our processes far longer than we should. Hiring is no exception.
A typical scenario: the company thinks that what they’re doing “works.” Because it did.
Once upon a time.
Maybe they were a single digit start up. But they’re much larger now.
Maybe it was effective with one skill set, like sales or operations. And they’re using the process for engineering.
Maybe it worked in a softer hiring marketing. It’s easy to get people to jump through hoops when there’s less opportunity.
Or maybe a hiring manager did something at an old company. But the new org is a totally different animal.
Times change. The market’s hot. Your 8 step process may not work anymore.
People might get annoyed with your excessively long assessments or project work.
If you’re not conveying your value to candidates right away they may not stick around long.
And no one ever liked dealing with unprepared interviewer or last minute reschedules.
And if anyone in your org is mentioning this...don’t shoot the messenger.
