"I want to be a recruiter when I grow up." Said no one ever.
Those of us in recruiting typically fell into this life through some strange turn of events. To be fair, this is common in any industry. Most people don't end up pursuing what they went to college for.
But recruiting has no college curriculum. No one is writing a dissertation on sourcing strategies. There's no academic think-tank furthering the study of ATS integrations.
Why not? It’d be pretty boring. And people think it’s all common sense.
But there is a painful lack of innovation in the recruiting industry. Companies still struggle to hire. Candidates still deal with painful application and interview experiences. Recruiting firms cling to the same outdated models. We’ll still be talking about it a year from now. It never seems to change.
We don’t need academia. We just need more recruiters questioning the status quo.
