If you Google a bit, the numbers are all over the map. But it’s real. Ask any recruiter. We’re all insanely busy.
Why this is happening is pretty simple: we survived a pandemic. Everyone realized they could get through whatever life threw at them.
Yet companies lulled themselves to sleep with the biggest retention lever there is: complacency. People have a natural fear of change. And that kept people in jobs they probably should have left long ago.
Whelp, that’s gone. As O’Brien McMahon put it at the end of this clip “Every day they show up is a choice.”
The takeaway is this: employers, you can’t lean on inertia any more. What are you going to do to make people choose to stay?
