(Video here with more elaboration and company examples - 4:16 watch)
Nate Guggia and I have been kicking around the idea of category design, but for hiring. You don’t have to play by everyone else's rules because in the eyes of the job seeker, there is no comparison.
Positioning becomes a thing of the past. House Lannister has no equal.
I’m not sure we’ve nailed it yet. But we did have a thought: doesn’t it all come down to retention? For years I've seen that companies who retain well also tend outperform on the hiring front. Everyone else is punching up.
What the hell are those companies doing that makes them so special?
I asked my team. Recruiters in any market tend to know which places people seem to never leave. (i.e. they’re a pain in the ass for us to headhunt from - this is a good thing.)
The trend was pretty clear:
Good pay.
Positive work environment.
They’re doing some cool sh*t.
Then it’s just a matter of more people knowing about it.
Maybe it’s really not that complicated.
