Ever read job search advice on LinkedIn and realize how insane this all is?
That these takes are really an indictment of how broken recruitment tech and processes are?
For example:
Figure out who the hiring manager is.
Stalk their status.
Comment.
Shoot connect requests.
Set up a 1:1.
Sell yourself like crazy.
Rinse and repeat x100.
Do this instead of…applying to the job on their website. With 2 clicks.
Why would anyone bother with this stuff?
👉Because it (probably) works better.
Networking. Social selling. Personal branding. Hustle culture meets the job search.
No snark here. This stuff works for a lot of people. And applying doesn’t.
👉Ask yourself: how broken are recruitment tech and processes for this to be the case?
Companies lay out a simple process and workflow. Here’s the job. Apply to it. As straightforward as it gets.
And that’s NOT the best way to get hired?
We normalized bad processes.
We normalized accepting them.
We normalized jumping through hoops to get around said processes entirely.
As a hiring community, what the hell are we doing?
