Lame recruiting topics that need to die
I'm over all this stuff
A recruiting hot take about recruiting hot takes: our industry gets stuck in neutral because we keep rehashing the same old stuff. Over and over. Instead of pushing things forward.
👉“The LinkedIn Green Open to Work Banner”
There’s actual data on this. Messages sent to ‘banner’ candidates get a 35% higher response rate. (Here.)
Recruiters use it. Job seekers should, too. End of discussion.
👉“How To Get Past The ATS”
Not a real topic. Find me an ATS system that uses AI to blackball candidates and I’ll sell you the Brooklyn Bridge.
It’s the opposite: HR tech is so dated, candidates get lost in a black hole. Due to excessive volume, overworked recruiters, and crappy tech. Applications get lost because the tech isn’t sophisticated enough.
That’s the real problem. Let’s talk about fixing that.
Recruiters ghost. Job seekers ghost. Friends ghosts. Your date from last week ghosts.
Notice the trend?
People. We suck.
👉“Cover Letters. Thank You Letters. Any Damn Letters”
👉”Firm Handshakes And Other Business 101 Topics”
Yes you should familiarize yourself with social norms. Good stuff.
Yes, I went there. And yes…I ran this into the ground myself.
But it’s simple: if you’re hybrid or onsite and you can hire, great. 👍
If you can’t hire...it’s because you limited yourself to ~1.5% of the total talent pool (here).
That’s it. What lame stuff did I miss?
