A recruiting hot take about recruiting hot takes: our industry gets stuck in neutral because we keep rehashing the same old stuff. Over and over. Instead of pushing things forward.

Some examples:

šŸ‘‰ā€œThe LinkedIn Green Open to Work Bannerā€

There’s actual data on this. Messages sent to ā€˜banner’ candidates get a 35% higher response rate. (Here.)

Recruiters use it. Job seekers should, too. End of discussion.

šŸ‘‰ā€œHow To Get Past The ATSā€

Not a real topic. Find me an ATS system that uses AI to blackball candidates and I’ll sell you the Brooklyn Bridge.

It’s the opposite: HR tech is so dated, candidates get lost in a black hole. Due to excessive volume, overworked recruiters, and crappy tech. Applications get lost because the tech isn’t sophisticated enough.

That’s the real problem. Let’s talk about fixing that.

šŸ‘‰ā€œStop Ghosting!ā€

Recruiters ghost. Job seekers ghost. Friends ghosts. Your date from last week ghosts.

Notice the trend?

People. We suck.

šŸ‘‰ā€œCover Letters. Thank You Letters. Any Damn Lettersā€

Yawn.

šŸ‘‰ā€Firm Handshakes And Other Business 101 Topicsā€

Yes you should familiarize yourself with social norms. Good stuff.

šŸ‘‰Remote Work!

Yes, I went there. And yes…I ran this into the ground myself.

But it’s simple: if you’re hybrid or onsite and you can hire, great. šŸ‘

If you can’t hire...it’s because you limited yourself to ~1.5% of the total talent pool (here).

That’s it. What lame stuff did I miss?
