:30 second read | Take a look at the slideshow I spent waaaay to much time putting together on here
I read something really dumb this morning.
Bloomberg says “65% of American workers who said their jobs could be done entirely remotely were willing to take a pay cut of 5%” here.
Pay cuts to work remote you say? In this market?
I don’t hate the research part of it (done by Breeze, here) I mean, anything is better than the LinkedIn Polls people are making (except mine, they’re great, duh.)
But Bloomberg’s article lacked something pretty important: examples of people actually doing this. And companies offering it as an incentive.
I'm sure they exist but not a single mention? Seems kinda lazy. And they charge you to read this stuff...
But if you simply asked any recruiter or hiring manager right now, you’d know starting salaries in this market are going the other direction.
In some skill sets, it’s an absolute arms race pushing up new hire bases. Sign-ons are becoming more common. Plenty on this if you Google it (e.g. here, here and here.)
In other words: why would anyone take a pay cut to go remote when more and more companies are
1. Offering remote and
2. Throwing around bigger starting salaries?
I mean they might take a cut in the short term but...how long do you think you’ll keep them?
