“Hey James. You and Jeff Smith pre-record your LinkedIn Live shows. Are you afraid to do a live broadcast or something?”
-Some random guy. Probably.
Challenge accepted, loser.
This morning I was on Good Day Chicago (local Fox32) on a segment on Ghost Jobs. Spooky.
If you’ve followed my nonsense on LinkedIn, this Talent Rants & Sarcasm blog, or the 10 Minute Talent Rant that Jeff and I do, you’ve heard these talking points before. The real challenge is cramming them into a 3 minute segment while still leaving time to dunk on crappy AI bots.
Tdlr - No one is actually posting ‘fake’ jobs, it just feels that way to job seekers. Most “ghost” postings are either outdated, redundant, or future-looking. Talent acquisition teams were cut to the bone so there’s less people managing job postings. And AI bots that allow people to apply to hundreds of jobs at once intensified the problem, as well as the screening AI bots that companies use to filter (creating a bots talking to bots dynamic.)
(Note: we didn’t have time to get into actual job seeker scams, which are rampant, but mostly via direct outreach with text messaging or social apps.)
You’re all caught up. Mostly disappointed I didn’t cram an American Psycho or Zoolander reference that only 5 people would notice. And getting cut off before I could do a proper self-promotion…
