Anyone catch the ‘Persona’ documentary on HBO? It gives some context to the obvious:
Personality tests shouldn’t be used in hiring. Full stop.
But don’t take my word for it. You know who else agrees?
Myers–Briggs. “It is not ethical to use the MBTI instrument for hiring...” Their words, not mine.
But I’ll take it a step further:
Personality tests are garbage.
They’re not based in any psychological science. Hobbyists made them like a hundred years ago. Glorified BuzzFeed tests.
They’re biased. You’re using them to select who fits your “culture.” Not on their ability to do the job. And that’s without taking into account mental health issues. Or how the question framing can be ableist, classist, sexist or racist.
Serious about DEI? Dump this.
And from a recruiter’s perspective: job seekers know they’re nonsense. They’re sick of doing them. So they don’t. They’re passing on these companies and pursuing others.
In summary:
Persona - 2/4 stars. 30 minutes of material stretched over an hour.
Personality tests - 0/4 stars.
