Recruiters have a front row seat to Unintentional Hypocrisy
Also introducing: Job Seeker Anger Porn

Recruiting makes me think about the Duality of Man*. Or as I call it: Unintentional Hypocrisy.
Common examples:
👉 We want our applicants to have perfect resumes. We write (err, copy) crappy job descriptions.
👉 We want detailed feedback when we interview. We don’t provide it when we do the interviewing.
👉 We want to a chance at every job opportunity we see. We’re picky as f*ck about who we hire.
👉 We come to LinkedIn to complain about every issue we have as job seekers. We don’t fix any of them at our current companies.
That last one drives it home for me. It relates to another phrase I just made up: Job Seeker Anger Porn.
It’s what fuels LinkedIn. Engagement bait stories, usually told by faux career coaches, that channel the frustration of the job seekers. People who have been sh*t on, wronged, or been desperate when their livelihood was at risk. (Read: Literally everyone at some point.)
You know the type. They construct an us vs them dynamic.
You’ve been wronged. They did it to you.
The thing is: I hate these posts and I unfollow everyone who makes them. They’re predatory, dishonest and self-serving.
How so?
👉There is no us vs them. It’s just us.
Job seekers and hiring teams are the same damn people.
Back to the beginning: no one means to do this. It’s the human condition. We’re all Unintentional Hypocrites at times. We have high expectations of how others should treat us and low awareness when the shoe’s on the other foot.
Nothing’s “broken.” We’re people. Not always aware of when we’re contributing to a larger problem.
This got a bit philosophical for a sec so let me leave you on a tactical note:
Want to see a resume that has every detail exactly how you want it?
👉Write a good job description first.
