Redoing that lame hot take that totally missed
Why video is better than text, now with actual details!
I got a lot of feedback on this one. Not good, but not bad either.
More like “care to elaborate?”
I was in my own head. Seemed self-explanatory to me when it really wasn’t. Here’s the remix:
It’s no secret that text posts tend to get more views than video on LinkedIn. The shift happened over a year ago. Algo hackers went into meltdown mode. Many started shifting to text only. Video wasn’t worth it. Views, views, views.
But views do not equal results. Views are vanity metrics.
There’s nothing wrong with text. But it’s impersonal. Tone gets lost. You can’t pick up on someone’s non-verbal cues. You don’t get a feel for their personality.
You don’t even know if they wrote it themselves.
Look at it through a hiring lens. The goal is not getting views. The goal is making some damn hires.
For employer brand, video crushes the written word in this respect. Source: everyone I know who uses video regularly. They have an easy af time hiring compared to before.
Why? Job seekers get a feel for who they'd work with.
A hiring manager discussing their philosophy > a copywriter's wordsmithing.
