Mine reads like a case study on worst practices for cold outbound. No targeting. No relevance. No detail.
“We sell explainer videos and book appointments. ‘Sup?”
Funniest part: companies pay money to send these InMails. Only for LinkedIn to sort them into a spam folder.
Not to be a hater. I used to make a LOT of sales off cold outbound. But we’re well past the 1 year mark of The Great SaaS Meltdown. I feel sorry for anyone who's still running on autopilot.
“But James, what’s actually working right now?”
Glad you asked, voice in my head. 3 things we’ve done this month that actually get a response:
1. Host an industry event. Venue and drinks. Get a speaker or two. Offer something up like free headshots. Invite your close contacts but also people you’ve been trying to get meetings with.
We hoped to get 40-50 people to come. Had over 100 RSVP.
2. Traveling soon? Take an extra half day and plan for coffee or lunch.
One of our partners messaged a dozen tech execs saying he’s coming from out of town and would love to talk shop. No agenda. His treat. Two in person meetings booked.
3. Spinning up a new service? Changing terms? Message a few people that you’d like to get their feedback. Make sure you’re on the right path. Most people want to help.
Everyone's sick of being sold to. But they still want to get out of the house.
