There's more devs than recruiters on LinkedIn
Not exactly scientific proof, but for this newsletter we'll go with it

Recruiters: Joel Lalgee proved that Software Developers are still active on LinkedIn.
đTheyâre just not that into you.
I know I know. Youâre like: Software Devs are not responding to my InMails! I never see them talk on this platform! They must all be gone!
Meanwhile, 1 of the 10 viral posts the gif king of LinkedIn made last week was a 12 step run down of how recruiters do their job.Â
Joelâs audience is primarily recruiters. So itâs no surprise it caught fire. Per usual.

Recruiter views: 27,802
Software Developer views: 33,012 đ
Thatâs right, MORE developers viewed Joelâs post than recruiters themselves.
But how? This isnât a popular forum for dev discussions. And every recruiter feels like their InMails go straight to the black hole.
Welcome to the 90:9:1 rule
1% of people post non-stop (guilty â)
9% chime in occasionally
90% lurk
The overwhelming majority of users donât engage here. Thatâs normal. Theyâre either busy or disinterested in what theyâre seeing. But they're still here.
That applies to your recruitment outreach, too.
So why arenât software engineers getting back to you? It comes down to 2 things:
1. Theyâre happy in their jobs. They arenât reading your pitch.
Not much you can do about that.
2. Theyâre open to looking. But theyâre absolutely flooded with InMails.
And your pitch sucked.
đTarget better. Write better. This is the way.
