A friend of mine is a senior level software engineer. This is his LinkedIn inbox.đ
We always hear that devs are in high demand. Theyâre flooded with opportunities. Recruiters hit them up constantly.
But itâs not until you see it with your own eyes that you realize what that means. Constant DMs. His fill up like this every couple of days.
And he responds to every message. Stating his current rate and asking what the job pays.
Why? Because itâs impossible to fully evaluate every opportunity when youâre looking at this type of volume.
Sure, I get it. You client/company is "different." They have <insert cliché pitch about something more important than money>.
When you have this many options, anything under your current comp really is a waste of time.
And of course, a lot of these recruiters never responded.
This is not a âoh those poor devsâ post. Nor is it a âlook at all these bad recruitersâ post.
But it is a wake up call.
đRecruiters (agency AND internal): imagine this is your inbox. What would you respond to?
A Basic B pitch wonât cut it.
And this is a person fully willing to engage. Do you think he'll reply on the next one if you ghost this time around? (The message history is logged, btw. He'll know.)
Mass mail isnât the enemy. Lack of detail and unwillingness to build relationships is.
đMost devs work with recruiters. Itâs just a question if theyâre going to work with you.
