There’s not enough experienced hires to go around.
And that “problem” won’t end anytime soon. Last year, US start-ups raised a record $330 billion.
Investors expect returns. Companies gotta grow. The hiring binge will continue.
I use quotes because the “solution” thus far is what you’ve all wanted:
👉Companies are throwing money at the problem.
Salaries are skyrocketing. It’s a bidding war. Hiring recruiters themselves is even a struggle.
I won’t lie: this market f*cking rules. For me and my fellow recruiters. And for everyone who has made a job change and received a fat increase.
But it’s not sustainable. At some point a macro-shift will happen. The kind of change that only happens when a lot of companies (and their investors) finally feel the pain.
Here are your options:
👉Offshoring: when there’s not enough people to do the work, look elsewhere.
We’re a global, remote workforce now.
👉Hiring Junior & Training: 4 million people graduate from college every year.
Except college is overrated (side rant for another day) and doesn’t really train anyone for the real world. But orgs who have invested in <YOUR COMPANY NAME HERE> University have always seen big results.
👉Loosening Requirements: not every position is as specialized as people think.
Most of us are doing things we had no idea how to do a few years ago.
👉Hire Off Grit. Or ability, potential, drive, whatever you want to call it.
It’s admittedly hard to gauge. But I assume you there’s a whole chunk of people looking for a career change that will work their ass off to make it happen.
👉Become a Destination Firm: Is your firm actually good? Yes? Then why the hell doesn’t everyone know about it? Get your marketing and talent teams to wake up and team up.
Or just let the bidding wars continue. Works for me. 👍
