Imagine referring a friend to your own company and no one even follows up.
How’s that make you feel?
It happens. A lot. And what happens next is a real problem: employees stop making referrals. They’re sick of looking bad and making excuses for why they got ghosted.
Not everyone who gets referred is going to be a fit. But you need to do your own employees, and job seekers, the courtesy of connecting.
What’s that James? A special Friday bonus take? I’m too generous I know…
The flip side: Don't give referral candidates priority in the interview process. It bakes in bias. And works counter to any diversity initiatives you have.
People tend to refer others from the same circles. So whether that’s race, gender, etc., or simply people from the same previous work environment.
Vet everyone fairly and equally. Otherwise you become homogeneous over time.
