Remote vs onsite takes are being replaced by 4 day work week takes.
But they’re all played. They usually skip over the real dichotomy we need to solve:
👉Uninterrupted Time v Socialization
I'm not a workplace productivity specialist. But this stuff isn’t rocket science. I first read about the power of uninterrupted time 20 years ago (gasp.) Google it. It’s great.
Want to 11x your productivity? Book more business? Wrap up early?
It’s simple: Shorten meetings. Shut off your phone. Block your calendar. Batch your work.
All time is you time. You’ll be the most productive you’ve ever been.
This isn’t hyperbole. But you already know. You all unexpectedly lived it for the last 2 years.
You didn’t just gain the ability to sleep in, blow off work early and take a nap. (Yes the fact that 2 of the first 3 things that came to mind involve sleep says a lot about me. I'm aware.)
You got more sh*t done, too.
But there’s the flip side: remember people? That was cool.
Mental health conversations. So hot right now. It’s not a news/awareness cycle thing either. People are struggling at a level I’ve never seen before. (Did we even talk about this stuff 10 years ago?)
The why is obvious: we've locked ourselves in our basements and stare at our computers. An endless day, one blending into the next.
For me the last 2 years are a blur. Did that convo happen 6 months ago? Or 18 months? No idea.
We don’t have the social anchors we used to that gave us relative points in time.
The 4 day work week gets the headlines now. But it wouldn’t even be a convo if those 4 days didn’t have the same productivity that 5 used to have. Thanks to our good friend, Uninterrupted Time.
I’m Team Remote. I’ll die on that hill. I wrote this using the 20 minutes that used to be my morning commute. It’s tops.
If you want to level up your org, the real discussions should be around:
👉boosting socialization while remote
👉 increasing uninterrupted time when onsite
Anyone who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too never thought about buying 2 cakes. Buncha dummies.
