Want to know how you get people to quit their jobs and join your company?
It’s quite simple: ask them.
The goal talent acquisition and employer brand is to motivate passive candidates to want to work for you.
Yet most companies struggle to understand how to do this. It’s because they’re stuck somewhere on what I call "The Recruiting Messaging Evolution Cycle." (If that name sucks feel free to come up with a new one. I'm just spitballing here.)
Level 1 - You come up with your message on your own.
No, you are not smart enough to tell people what will persuade them. This is where most companies are stuck. And it shows.
Level 2 - You ask new employees.
Nice start. Kudos for employee engagement. But these people said yes. They can’t tell you why someone won’t even respond to you.
Level 3 - You ask job seekers. Getting warmer. But they’re already motivated. Not the same.
Level 4 - Cut out all the middlemen and ask the passive candidates .
How do you go about this? Ask for help with your messaging. Seriously. People would much rather help you than hear another crappy recruiter pitch.
Shout out to Mitch Sullivan who helped me realize I was stuck at Level 3. Follow him, he good.
