“Why do people leave your company?”
It’s a straightforward question. Can you answer it?
Repelling candidates, i.e. giving them a reason to not apply, is underutilized. When I brought this up in the past, I got a repeated objection:
“What are you talking about? No matter what I put in the job description, people keep applying anyway.”
Well, probably because your job ad** is boring and no one reads past the title. Doesn’t count.
Back on topic. There’s a lot of ways to get your recruiting message out there (<cough> hiring manager videos on social work great <cough>). And addressing why people leave should be on that do to the list.
Do you actually have a good reason you can share?
“Because we’re a train wreck”
“Our competitors pay better”
Yeah these are things you might want to address...
When you give the full picture, candidates make better decisions. They can come to their own conclusion that it might not be a great fit.
And that’s how content can save what we call a “bad hire”...
