The dirty little (not-so) secret of business podcasts: sometimes the audience isn't the real audience. The guest is the audience.
Advanced sales strategy: don't waste your time pitching to executives. Just invite them on your podcast.
Why? Because it works.
Turns out executives are regular people. They're sick of being sold to, but they love hearing themselves talk.
(Yes I just made fun of literally everyone reading this, I'm that good.)
I will say I'm legit conflicted on this. I don't think there's anything unethical about it. But oftentimes sounds like the listener is being left out to dry.
Sometimes it ends up being a glorified platform to pitch their product.
Sometimes, despite being highly accomplished, the guest just isn’t a very good speaker.
In other words: the show sucks. Because the podcaster didn't care about creating quality content. They cared about making a sale.
For the record, if a skilled interviewer can turn it into good content, fine by me.
But...a lot of them can't.
